Item #1 of my low buy ... and item #2
Continuing my love affair with green and solving a returning wardrobe crisis (hopefully!)
I had planned only to write about my first new item of the year in this post, but before I published I ended up adding another item to my wardrobe, so in order to keep accountability, I’ll include both in this week’s post.
In 2024 five of my 22 purchased items were green. Is this trend going to continue in 2025? It’s one of my top five colours in my wardrobe, and I actually have more green items than white at this point, which I didn’t expect.
So not really surprising, the first item of my low buy 2025 ended up being a dark green cashmere sweater from Uniqlo, that I mentioned earlier this year. I don’t have a green sweater already, so this will add more colour and versatility, as well as a fuzzy texture (Adding texture was one of my style goals).
I can see myself wearing this to work, having brunch with friends or worn with my leather skirt for a casual dressy event.
I haven’t tried all of the following outfits IRL yet and some of them might not work or feel like me, but it shows me the versatility of adding a green sweater to my wardrobe. I could probably make even more by swapping the shoes and layering a shirt underneath.
This will count as a replacement for a too small sweater I gave away last year. I feel good about this purchase, which is an important consideration for me.
Item #2 of my low buy
The purchase of item #2 of my low buy followed fairly quickly after #1, but when I saw a pair of silk blend drawstring pants from H&M Premium on sale I couldn’t resist. I really love the wide leg silhouette, the subtle almost crêpe texture and shine of the fabric and the elasticated waist that makes them feel both dressy and relaxed.
I’ve been on the lookout for a dressier pair of pants for a short while. I don’t have a huge selection of festive wear, so I would love to add a piece that makes me feel special and still works for a lot of scenarios. Furthermore the elasticated waist makes them extremely comfortable, so no worries about feeling bloated or how much you’re eating at a dinner party!
I don’t mind the CPW not getting super low for more formal wear, but I actually think these could be styled in a multiple of ways.

Inspired by Anna Newton and the many ways she styles her silk pants, I imagine wearing them with a cosy cashmere sweater for a more chill look, a button down for a chic vibe or a linen top for dinner out at a summer vacation. I actually ended up wearing them together with the new sweater mentioned above for brunch with friends the following weekend (with woolen leggings underneath for warmth!).
One occasion I always struggle getting dressed for is a casual dressy family event. They often take place in someone’s garden, so semi-practical shoes is a must. Everyone else is wearing a knee lenght (floral) dress with black tights and sneakers, and that just isn’t my vibe. And I often end up feeling overdressed or like I’m going to the office. So enter the pants! I could get behind wearing these with sneakers, a top or a button up depending on the weather and feeling quite like myself. Definitely planning to wear these for my new nephew’s upcoming naming party in a few months! Yay, no outfit crisis the night before.
Low buy status:
New items: 1/12
Replacements: 1/8
This means that I’ve already bought two of my allotted 20 items for this year, but I don’t regret it. The trousers were ‘a full body yes’, and for my low buy to work, I need to balance the fun parts with the more practical needs. If they can save me from having an outfit crisis before every family event, they’ll definitely be worth it! (I’m sure my husband agrees.) They also have the added bonus of aligning with my style goal #3 about adding sophistication to an outfit through choice of material.

I didn’t plan to have added two new items only halfway through January and this makes me a bit apprehensive about being able to stick to my low buy goal of only 20 items. I need to slow down, allow myself to sit with the fear of missing out on sales or items in my size. Being okay with not having exactly what I would prefer for every occasion and finding ways to wear what I have.
Would love to hear from you in the comments how your low buy is going (if you’re doing one) and if you have purchased anything so far.
I’ve also bought two new things this year (one new thing and one replacement thing) - I didn’t put an official number to how many items id allow myself this year but I did commit to 2025 being a low-buy year. I was a bit scarred when I realised I’d bought two things in the first two weeks of the year.. but also I really felt you when you said that you needed to:
“balance the fun parts with the more practical needs. If they can save me from having an outfit crisis before every family event, they’ll definitely be worth it!”
The what am I going to wear crisis can be so real!!
From the ‘full body yes’, it sounds like you’ve made some great additions to your wardrobe. Love the silk pants! I sometimes have the same struggle with casual dressy events falling in the realm of office wear vibes.
I’m really enjoying my no-buy so far! Shocked at how much my no-browsing/wishlisting rule has impacted where I invest my time.
