Love the visuals in this post, Sigrid! And your safari style is/was so cool!

I don't think I have any occasion triggers for fantasy self shopping, but there are certain categories. Knitwear is probably the big one! I think I picture myself being super cozy and chic all winter, when the reality is that I am very sweaty and also work in an excessively heated building. I don't need this many sweaters.

Lessons have been learned!

So happy that you liked the visuals. Spent way too much time on them, so it means a lot!

It can be so easy to fall in love with certain categories even though they don’t really work for our lifestyle!

I echo you, Carly. For whatever reason I never shop for my holidays. ...I may shop while on holiday ;) but never before.

The only exception may be my mountaineering trips in case I need a certain gear, like a merino wool base layer in a particular thickness.

Sigrid - if you're open to it, we could meet (again) to go through your summer items together. If you really want to avoid shopping for the trip in May (which by the way sounds absolutely wonderful!) maybe a separate pair of eyes and no sentiment can help you.

p.s. My husband and I have just booked a trip to New Zealand for Xmas and NY. I may need some advice in terms of what to pack as well.

Ewelina, thank you for your offer! I think I figured it out by writing next weeks post - love that writing can give you so much clarity 😊 So my summer wardrobe isn't the most urgent at this point. I would like to meet up again - maybe for a cup of coffee or shopping. Who knows I might also need help with other parts of my wardrobe.

NZ sounds amazing - it's definitely a place I want to visit with my husband. But quite a different vibe than Botswana 😄

I have a safari booked, would love to see (and save) a post on safari dressing. Mine is booked a year out, so no rush on my account 😄

Would love to do a post! Probably in the next couple of months.

Where are you going on safari? For me it was truly an experience in a lifetime. Just loved seeing all the animals in their natural setting. I really want to go on a safari again! You have so much to look forward to!

I laughed out loud at the not going to-Seville story and I totally agree about the many layers going on safari in Botswana. Brrr. Honestly, I haven’t shopped for a holiday in years, as I found I never liked the items I bought for a specific holiday. I pack what I like to wear in the summer at home and try to go with a colour scheme so most things match. I’m still me even if I now sit on a beach with my aperol spritz. 🌴😎 Also, it’s way more fun buy something special at the destination that I can take back home. ☺️ Many of my handbags and sunglasses are bought in dutyfree at different airports around Europe… 😂

Shopping for a specific holiday can definitely be a trap 😂 Though I do like the hat I bought for Botswana and was extremely grateful to have it. It's coming with me to Martinique.

Buying things at a destination is a great souvenir if it's something you wear like your sunglasses and bags, but I might have a scarf or two in the back of my closet from holidays that I never wear... So now I always ask myself if this is actually something I would wear at home 😆

I tend to fantasy shop for someone who swishes around in silk pyjamas and brocade coats, and I have had to recognise that this person now has an extensive wardrobe for her so far imaginary lifestyle.

Love this fantasy version! But maybe not the most practical for every day life 😆

Vacation used to be a huge trigger for me in terms of shopping for the fantasy self! If I was going somewhere warm, I’d start adding to cart like I was retiring to a tropical island! In more recent years, my mentality has been that it would be way more fun to buy something special while away that works for my everyday life and will serve as a memento. For example, I bought a ring at an artist’s market while on a long weekend trip with my husband in New Orleans, and it’s something I can wear anytime and always reminds me of the fun we had on that trip.

Couldn't help but laugh a little when reading the retiring comment - probably because I really relate! I love that you buy something special when you're away. I've done that a few times with jewelry but mostly it's been pottery and house decor. (Don't ask me how many elephants and other animals are scattered around the house 😂)
