I am often so sure something is ‘right’ until it gets delivered and I wonder what was I thinking 🤣 if its not a full body yes it goes straight back! I can’t spot the new accessory … do tell! And sorry to hear about work, what’s meant to be will be 🌟

Oh I have those as well! I try to be more realistic and test in out in Indyx, but nothing beats having it on your body and observing how I'm actually feeling.

For the accessory 🤓

Thank you! I think only one colleague actually noticed - and none of my family 😂 (except my husband, but he knew)

Fingers crossed for you! I love how intentional you were with these decisions. After trying for years, I've had to just give up on wool :(

Thank you!

I do my best to be intentional, but it doesn't always work out, though I feel I've gotten better this year.

Still not ready to give upon wool complete 😆

Layoffs just before Christmas seem particularly cruel. Sending you strength no matter the outcome. Thank you for always sharing your thoughts on your buys. I find the questions you pose particularly helpful for me too. Take care!

Thank you so much. The timing definitely isn't the best - but I don't know if there's a good time for lay offs at all!

Happy that it is helpful!

I’m really sorry to hear about your job situation — I hope both you and your husband will be okay.

And I’m glad you were able to say no to anything that wasn’t a full-body yes! Always a solid strategy, imo. I thought the crewneck sweater looked great on you, but of course the material has to feel right too.

Sigrid Djernæs's avatar

Thank you - fingers crossed. The worst is the uncertainty.

Mostly it's probably getting used to a new neckline, but the silhouettes of the garment has to be right as well. I did like the look of the two crew necks I included, but unfortunately the wool didn't work for me.

I want to experiment with crew necks in other materials than wool. Just a bit of a bummer as wool is such a nice material and warm as well.

Yes, I get it! Have you tried a cotton/cashmere or cotton/merino blend yet? I feel like that combo might be easier to tolerate but still nice and warm?

Sigrid Djernæs's avatar

Cashmere is unfortunately some of the worst when it comes to getting a rash and itching, but a cotton/merino blend might work. Will keep an eye out! Thanks for the suggestion.

Well at least it’s good for the budget when cashmere isn’t an option 😅

I’m sorry to hear about the potential layoffs. It’s a stressful time. While I don’t want it to happen to you, I can say from personal experience ( my husband and I have been laid off twice at the same time) we came through ok and the time away from working helped me clarify what I look for in a workplace culture. As for your very thoughtful approach to acquisitions I’m completely in favour. I also think interesting bottoms that you love are a better wardrobe multiplier than an itchy sweater. It you want to play with a slouchy jumper silhouette you could also try the crewneck sweatshirt that Uniqlo do- their colour range will be good for your colouring, they are soft and might be a good indoor winter option. I concede they won’t be as warm as wool.

I'm sorry to hear that it happened to you, but happy that you came through okay. I'm sure we'll manage one way or another, but the uncertainty is stressfull. But at the same time, it can provide an opportunity to reflect on what you really want.

I'll have a look at Uniqlo's sweatshirt. Thank you the recommendation!

I’m sorry to hear about the layoffs. We had a round of layoffs too, and it has been a stressful month despite keeping my job.

I also thought I would wear a belt more often, but as you say, sometimes it’s fussy. I do like it for the days I don’t feel bloated and I want to look a bit more polished. I think I have such low tolerance for anything even slightly uncomfortable or fussy nowadays.

In the end, I have to remind myself my wardrobe will never be ”done” so I don’t need to settle or rush.

Happy to hear that you kept your job, even though losing colleagues are hard as well. The uncertainty is probably the most stressful about it right now.

I used to wear belts all the time, but lately I just haven't been reaching for them. And the COS belt just wasn't right for me.

So true, our wardrobes will keep evolving, so there is no end goal! Having a bad option can (at least for me) sometimes be worse than having no option.

Sorry to hear about the impending layoffs, and hope you and your husband will be okay. I know it can be a blow either way with the loss of colleagues.

FWIW, I actually really like the crewneck on you. Maybe it’s a matter of adjusting to new silhouettes, but of course needs to feel right to you.

Thank you - and you are so right, that even though we might keep our jobs (fingers crossed), the loss of colleagues will be hard.

I think I mostly need to get used to the crewneck - the pics I included was also the options I likes the most. But l'll have to find an option (material/cut) that doesn't make me itch for hours afterwards.

Sorry to hear about the work situation, Sigrid. I hope neither of you are affected! As for the accessory, new glasses?

I know what you mean about buying an item and then not having it work. I'm currently experiencing that with a November purchase but it was consignment so I can't return it - I'll continue to experiment with it but it remains to be seen if it ends up staying.

Oh, that's too bad about your purchase. Hope you can make it work! It's difficult when you can't return things.

Knowing that not every purchase will align with your personal style is so important! I’m currently on the hunt for new silver earrings and am completely obsessed with the Monica Vinader ones. 💖 Building a wardrobe really is all about progress, not perfection, just like you said! I’m trying my best to control all my impulses this year. Thinking of you and your husband and hoping everything works out for the best—big hugs! 🤗

I'm really happy with my earrings - I got the size medium and feel the are big enough to make an impact, but not so big that I won't wear them day-to-day.

Writing here on Substack has really helped me reflect on my wardrobe and what I want to add - it seems like it might have had a similar impact on you?

Fingers crossed for the job situation!

I’m so sorry about the impending layoffs and hope your husband and you will be ok. It’s seriously sucky that they’re doing it during this period too.

I love reading your reflections and am happy for you that you’re getting fussier! Only full bodied yeses, no mediocre pieces. ❤️

Angie uh had good recs for sweaters and cardigans in her recent posts if you’re still hunting! But I think waiting for Jan sales would work best

Yes, I feel the timing could be so much better, and everyone has been feeling a bit nervous the last couple of weeks. We should now next week, and are crossing our fingers. But it sucks! Even though we might not loose our jobs, we will still be loosing good colleagues.

It's so important that we pay attention to what we like, and don't get something that should work in theory or for other people. I've been loving seeing your updates about using ChatGPT to check if pieces would work for your wardrobe.

There was a short piece about the lay-offs on dr.dk, but I don't think many noticed it.
